As the NBA Draft approaches this week, we continue our pre-draft coverage. Next up on the NBA Draft Profile list is Ron Holland. He comes into the 2024 draft as one of the most polarizing players but there are some doubts about him. In High School, Holland was a stud. He opted to play for the G-League Ignite instead of playing in college.
Height: 6’7″ (6’10.5″ wingspan)
Weight: 196 lbs
Age: 19
Position: SF/PF
Holland started 14 games for the Ignite this season and averaged 18.5 points and 6.7 rebounds. He suffered a thumb injury which cut his season short. He shut himself down to prepare for the NBA Draft. On the offensive side of the ball, Holland is a dynamic player who can create shots off the ball. He comes with speed to beat defenders off the dribble, but he can also lull his defenders to sleep with cross-overs and jump shots. Defensively, he does a good job rebounding for his size. His athleticism and size play big dividends in passing lanes.
Strengths:
Athleticism/Length
Holland’s length and athleticism may be his calling card until he gets better on the outside of the three-point line. He’ll be a lob threat and someone who can score with ease on the inside. His size allows him to be a good rebounder and provide a strong defensive presence.
Energy
As a small/power forward, Ron Holland is a high-energy player. He brings elite effort night in and night out. He can change ends of the court in a flash and fly high above the rim.
Inside Scoring
When it comes to scoring and having the ball in his hands, Holland can create opportunities. Most of his points come from inside the three-point line. Whether it be at the rim or in the mid-range. He’s constantly looking to drive to the hoop.
Weaknesses:
Three-Point Shooting
If he can become a knockdown 3-point shooter his value will soar even higher but right now this is the biggest weakness in his game. He shot just 24% during his lone season with the G-League Ignite. If opposing teams can keep Holland behind the arc.
Ball Handling
Another area that Holland needs to improve is with his ball-handling skills. Especially with him being a forward who drives to the paint a lot. Being able to handle the ball is a crucial element of that.
Draft Prediction: Top 10 pick
NBA Comparison: Andrew Wiggins/RJ Barrett
