The defending Super Bowl Champions look to defend their title and win a third in the past five seasons. The Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs will face off Saturday night from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. At one point of the season, this looked like a potential AFC Championship Game matchup. Instead, these two will square off on Wild Card weekend. Let’s preview the Dolphins and Chiefs.

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins made the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2000 and 2001. It’s been a tough two decades for Miami as this is only their fourth playoff appearance since the NFL expanded to 32 teams in 2002. One year after finally making it back to the playoffs and losing a close game to Buffalo, the Dolphins are hoping to extend their postseason to the divisional round.

Miami boasts two of the fastest wide receivers in the game in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, although Waddle got hurt against Baltimore and missed the final game against Buffalo. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has really come into his own in his fourth season in the league. And Raheem Mostert gives the Dolphins a potent run game.

Miami looked to be cruising to its first division title since 2008 until hiccups in the final two games against the Ravens and Bills dropped them to the sixth seed.

Kansas City Chiefs

It’s been impossible to avoid the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2023 NFL season. The team had already won the AFC three of the last four years, winning two Super Bowls, making them one of the premiere teams in the league. And quarterback Patrick Mahomes stars in several commercials for companies across the United States. But once tight end Travis Kelce started dating megastar Taylor Swift, the Chiefs went from seeming to be everywhere to actually being everywhere.

But the Chiefs hit some snags along the way while trying to defend their Super Bowl title. Kansas City started the year with a loss to Detroit before reeling off six wins a row. The Chiefs then lost five of the next eight before finishing the season with two straight wins. While the Chiefs were the favorite to clinch the first-round bye, they wound up slipping to the number three seed.

Dolphins vs. Chiefs Predictions

The Miami Dolphins played six games against opponents who made the playoffs. Miami only won one of those games beating the Dallas Cowboys in Miami. One of those losses was also to this same Kansas City Chiefs team. That loss came as one of the Chiefs’ two wins during that stretch where Kansas City lost five of seven games. That game was played in Germany.

As for the Chiefs, Kansas City only played five games against opponents who made the playoffs. The Chiefs also only won one of those games and that game came against the Dolphins. I’m picking the Chiefs to win.

Final Score: Kansas City Chiefs 24 | Miami Dolphins 10
