Rams fans are panicking as it appears Aaron Donald may be quietly retiring from the NFL.
As you are watching the NFL Playoffs, or maybe not but we wanted to alert you of the possibility that Donald may be retiring. Early Sunday, Donald changed his Twitter bio to say “former NFL D Linemen for the Rams #99.” Then just as people were noticing it, he had changed it back.
In the rise of social media, we have learned that things don’t happen accidentally or randomly. So the message from Donald may mean he is done or thinking about retiring. If he eventually decides to retire, he would be walking away just one year after receiving a massive contract that, as written, gives him the ability to walk away without financial consequence after 2023. If he leaves though, he will owe the Rams money, in theory.
The contract came into effect last season when Donald originally had thought about retiring. He may have been motivating the Rams to give him a bigger deal at that time. Though this year, it’s unclear what he’s trying to do. Unless he simply realizes that a full-blown rebuild is needed in L.A. and that he’ll be long gone before things turn around.
Maybe he isn’t hinting at retirement at all this season, maybe he’s hinting at a trade that is already set to take place or that he wants to be traded. After all, the bio did say “former NFL D Lineman for the Rams #99.”
No sources, have confirmed either a trade or the retirement of Donaldson yet.
