There’s a new top dog in the AFC East, and all four teams are sitting in playoff spots after a wild Sunday in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins, who have experienced a roller coaster season so far, are now sitting in first place. The Buffalo Bills snatched defeat from the jaws of victory twice on Sunday losing their stranglehold on the division. The New York Jets and New England Patriots had one of the best weekends they could’ve imagined without even taking the field.
MIAMI DOLPHINS
The Dolphins had the best weekend of any of the four team. Miami came out strong against beating down the lowly Cleveland Browns 39-17. Miami has been a streaky team this season and are currently on their best streak. After starting the season with three wins, Miami dropped three straight before reeling off four consecutive wins. Those three losses included the game where we know for a fact Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion, and the two games he wasn’t cleared to play. In every game he has started and finished, Miami is undefeated. They enter the bye 7-3 and jumped from third to first in the division. They will likely continue the trend after Thanksgiving as their next game is against the Houston Texans.
BUFFALO BILLS
In contrast to the Dolphins, the Bills had the worst possible weekend of anyone in the AFC East. Buffalo entered in first place but had a tough opponent in the NFC North leading Vikings. Buffalo looked to have the game won with an impressive goal line stand but a Josh Allen fumble in the end zone gave Minnesota the lead. Buffalo would force overtime, but after the Vikings kicked a field goal. Allen threw an interception in the end zone leading to their third loss of the season. The loss knocked the Bills from first to third in the division, and Buffalo has lost to both teams ahead of them in the division. The Bills are on a losing skid, but they catch a bit of a break taking on Cleveland on Sunday and then Detroit on Thanksgiving.
PATRIOTS AND JETS
New England and New York both had the weekend off, but Buffalo’s loss was huge for both. The Jets, who have wins over both the Bills and Dolphins moved into second place in the division as they have the tiebreaker over Buffalo. If the Jets beat the Patriots on Sunday, they will be leading the division. New England still sits in last place, but they are a game behind both New York and Buffalo. The Patriots are the only team in the division to beat New York, so far, this year. Unfortunately for New England, they lost to both Buffalo and Miami, so they can only climb to third place if they beat New York Sunday.
AFC EAST: PLAYOFF MONSTERS
As of week 10, the entire AFC East is sitting in a playoff spot. The Patriots hold a tiebreaker over the Los Angeles Chargers who lost to San Francisco. It’s unlikely all four will make the playoffs, but all four have the potential to be threats come January. Before the season, Buffalo looked like the clear favorite. Right now, picking a winner looks impossible. I can’t wait to see what these four teams have in store for us going forward.
