The AFC North has now become a destination for some of the game’s best and youngest stars at the quarterback position. Previously it was the home to 3 former Heisman trophy winners in Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow. However, Deshaun Watson’s trade to Cleveland has catapulted this division’s quarterbacks into another status. Therefore, we rank them from 1st to last based on their play.
Lamar Jackson (2018-2022)
Lamar Jackson is the most dynamic in this division and possibly in the NFL. Jackson is a former MVP of the league and notched 1 pro bowl under his belt. Without Lamar, on the field, Raven’s offense would not be what it is today. For instance, he compliments the team’s run game perfectly with his athletic ability to pressure a defense because of his running ability. Combine him and his two running backs it changes everything. He has a career record of 37-12, a completion percentage is 64.1%, 7.5 yards on average, with an 84-31 touchdown to interception ratio. Jackson’s quarterback rating is 98.1%, his career passing yards are 9,967, and finally, he averages 171.8 passing yards a game. As well, he has 3,673 career rushing yards with 21 rushing touchdowns.
Deshaun Watson (2017-2022)
Deshaun Watson might be the best pure quarterback in the AFC North. His college coach Dabo Sweeney called him the Micheal Jordan of football. During that season he led the NFL in passing yards with 4,823. For instance, during the 2020 season, Watson had a passer rating of 112.4 second to only Aaron Rogers. As well while playing in Houston in his 2nd season, he took them to the divisional round of the playoffs. So far into Watson’s career, he has gradually progressed each season as a quarterback. In his career, he has a record of 28-25, a completion percentage of 67.8% and total passing yards are 14,539. In addition, he averages 8.3 yards a throw, has a 104-36 touchdown to interception ratio, a quarterback rating of 104.5, and averages 269.2 yards a game.
Joe Burrow (2020-2022)
Joe Burrow was the surprise breakout quarterback last season. Partly because of the surprise SuperBowl run that the Bengals went on. Former first overall pick he won come back player of the year for the season of 2021. Meanwhile, having no expectations for the 2021 season Burrow and the Bengals had one of the best playoffs runs in football history. His ability and chemistry with Ja’Marr Chase pushed this team forward. Burrow has a career record of 12-13-1, his completion percentage is 68.2%, and has 7,299 total yards. In addition Burrow averages 7.9 yards a throw, a 47-19 touchdown ratio, a quarterback rating of 100.2, and finally averages 280.7 yards a game.
Mitch Trubisky (2017-2022)
Mitch Trubisky was the rare big-name free agent the Steelers went out and signed. With the signing of Trubisky he will bring a new element to the offense. It will allow the offensive coordinator Matt Canada to have an offense he likes the most. Therefore, Trubisky allows them to run more RPOs, something they couldn’t do with Big Ben. Mitch will have big shoes to fill with it being post-Big Ben era. Also, it must be remembered that the Steelers drafted Kenny Pickett in the first round. He will most likely be a bridge quarterback. Mitch Trubisky has a career record of 29-21, a 64.1 completion percentage, and 10,652 total passing yards. In conclusion, Trubisky averages 6.7 yards a throw 64-38 touchdown to interception ratio, and an 87.0 career passer rating.
Conclusion
Similarly stated before the AFC North now has three of the youngest stars at quarterback. Which is needed in a now quarterback-heavy AFC conference. Lamar is first because of his impact on the game and his team. Followed by Deshaun Watson who is second based on his 2020 stats and his ability to improvise and keep plays alive. I believe that if he had played last season he could’ve challenged Lamar for the top spot in the division. Joe Burrow follows because he’s had a spectacular season but it’s still a small sample size. Albeit he will be great we just need a little more longevity from him. Finally, Mitch Trubisky is fourth because it seems as if he is just the bridge quarterback for Kenny Pickett. However, with his athletic ability, he will transform the Steeler’s offense.
