Aidan Chiles

Former Oregon State QB Aidan Chiles is following Jonathan Smith to Michigan State. The same coach that recruited him out of high school to play at OSU. Chiles was the No. 1 QB in the transfer portal this year per 24/7 transfer rankings.

A 4-star prospect out of the 2023 class Chiles is 6-foot-3, 200 pounds and showcased dual-threat ability at Oregon State. He’ll enroll at MSU and join the team in January.

He served as the primary backup to DJ Uiagalelei during the 2023 season. He threw for 309 yards, rushed for 79 and scored seven total touchdowns. He got some meaningful game reps in the 2023 season, playing in nine total games. Multiple times, he was in with the first team.

Now with Smith at MSU, he had been looking for a QB after all three options entered the transfer portal. Aidan Chiles was probably his preferred choice. He’ll be immediately eligible to play and have three years left of eligibility as well. The pairing will work together to find an offensive identity at Michigan State. Not only will the move reunite Chiles with Smith but also worth former Oregon State OC and Quarterbacks Coach Brian Lindgren. In an offensive system, that he’s comfortable Aidan Chiles will look to put Michigan State back on the map.

The school has been on the downhill for awhile. In the second season under Mel Tucker the team went 11-2 but have not been able to repeat that success since. Last year, they went 5-7 and this year 2-0 until Tucker was fired. Smith, who had Oregon State on a trajectory to becoming a good team, will look to rebuild the Spartan brand. Having a building block like Chiles will certainly help with that.
