The Alabama Crimson Tide has landed another big name in the transfer portal. After visiting the Crimson Tide’s Rose Bowl practice earlier today, Domani Jackson has announced that is where he’ll be transferring according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.
Two seasons ago, Jackson chose the Trojans over Alabama and Michigan. It was reported early on that both Texas and Texas A&M were also in the running for the former 5-star recruit. This is just the second transfer portal pickup for Nick Saban this season, as Domani Jackson joins Texas A&M transfer defensive lineman LT Overton.
Jackson also confirmed the announcement on his Instagram:
This past season, Alabama’s defense featured two of the best cornerbacks in the country. With Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold leading the way, the Alabama defense ranked 17 in the country. However, both of those guys are expected to be gone next season as they head to the NFL.
Jackson started 11 games this season for USC, playing 668 defensive snaps. He was targeted 31 times in coverage, allowing 20 receptions for 411 yards and two touchdowns. He tallied 33 total tackles with three pass breakups. As the third-ranked CB in the transfer portal he should add some value to the Crimson Tide. The top player at the position that is expected to return is Trey Amos. After that, the room would have lacked experience before the commitment from Jackson. Outside of the two they have two redshirt freshmen who saw limited playing time, as well as two true freshmen who didn’t see any playing time.
So the addition was needed for Alabama’s defense. Otherwise, the secondary might’ve been hurting against tougher competition such as Texas (who will be moving to the SEC) and Georgia.
