The historic career and rejuvenating season keeps getting better for Albert Pujols as he hit his 703rd home run on Monday night, that one hit broke his tie with Babe Ruth for second place in career RBIs. Just days after hitting his final Home Run in his final at-bat in St. Louis.

The 22-year-veteran connected off right-hander Mitch Keller, when he pulled his 24th home run of the season, a two-run shot that would break a scoreless tie with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“Seeing him hit a home run in that situation was fun to watch,” Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said. “You feel pretty good about where you’re at whenever he swings, and his home runs have been very meaningful.”

It was also his 35th career home run at PNC Park, the most in any visiting ballpark. That home run gave Albert Pujols RBIs 2,215 and 2,216, which broke his tie with Babe Ruth for second on the all-time RBI list. He now trails just Hank Aaron (2,297).

Pujols, who plans to retire after the season, has 24 home runs on the season — the most he’s hit in a year since his 31 as a member of the Los Angeles Angels in 2016. His last 16 have come since the beginning of August. He is one of four players in major league history with 700, joining Barry Bonds (762), Aaron (755), and Ruth (714).

“Like I’ve been saying a lot lately, what Albert Pujols is able to do right now is something marvelous,” said Pirates standout rookie and fellow Dominican Oneil Cruz. “It’s something that’s coming from God above. This amazes all of us and gives us a lot of pride and gives us a lot of hope toward the future. I admire him a lot, and to be able to see what he’s doing, it’s impressive. It’s something that definitely makes an impact in my life and motivates me going forward, as well.” – via MLB.com
