Alex Caruso sprained his left foot halfway through the first quarter in Monday’s win over the Houston Rockets. The Bulls have announced that Caruso will be out for at least 7-10 days.
How Significant Is Caruso To the Bulls?
Since signing with the Bulls this past off-season, Alex Caruso has become the heart and soul of the Chicago Bulls. He signed a four year/$37 million deal to join Chicago make a playoff push for the first time since 2017. Caruso brings energy on the defensive end and is second in the NBA with two steals per game. He might only average 8.6 points and 4.0 assists, but his plus-minus of 4.6 is second-best on the Bulls. Only behind the MVP of the Bulls this season, DeMar DeRozan.
That means Caruso is critical for the Bulls to make a deep playoff run this postseason. Caruso missed three games earlier this month with a hamstring injury. This injury will be the second injury Caruso has had to deal with this season. So injuries aren’t new to Caruso. The Bulls record without Caruso so far this season is 1-2.
Possible Return Date?
Ten days from today will be January 1st, and the Bulls will be on the road against the Washington Wizards. In my opinion, Caruso will make his return on January 3rd at home against the Orlando Magic. Caruso walked on his own power to the locker room, which means this injury won’t be long-term unless there are setbacks.
Chicago’s game against Toronto was postponed tonight because of the Raptors COVID outbreak. The Bulls will hope to get almost entirely healthy by Sunday when they go on the road to Indiana.
