Suns Booker and Chris Paul Need Rest after All-Star Game
In the the last games the Phoenix Suns Devin Booker and Chris Paul averaged more minutes per game than they have the rest of the season. Booker is up more than two minutes per game at 36.5 and Paul over a minute at 34.1. In some games since Landry Shamet and Cameron Payne’s injuries Paul logged more than 40 minutes. Paul and Booker represent the Suns as reserves in the All-Star game Sunday. After Sunday the Suns next play Thursday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Paul may not be playing in his twelfth All-Star game Sunday. The Houston Rockets Jae’Sean Tate’s arm hit Paul’s hand on the follow through of a pass. He was scheduled to have and MRI Thursday. Phoenix picking up Aaron Holiday at the trade deadline may become an even bigger move. Holiday’s minutes as the first backup may increase to starters minutes, if Paul’s injury keeps him out of the line up after the break.
Chance For Shamet and Payne to Work Their Way Back
As of right now the Suns expect both Landry Shamet and Cameron Payne back for the game against the Thunder. Payne injured his wrist January 14 in a win over the Indiana Pacers. Shamet injured his ankle sixteen days later against the San Antonio Spurs, a game Phoenix also won.
Despite the two back up guards injuries, as well Forwards Frank Kaminsky and Dario Saric being out for the season with knee injuries, the Suns continue to sport the best record in the NBA at 48-10. Shamet and Payne can work their back without feeling rushed because of the team’s success. That’s good news for the Suns, who will need both to contibute to what Suns fans hope is a deep playoff run.
