Let’s look back at the American Athletic Conference games for this past week and look ahead. Houston and Memphis Basketball teams are who we are checking out.

Houston Vs Hofstra

They are ranked number 15. Houston played Hofstra on November 9th, defeating them 83-75 in overtime. Houston had their fair share of struggles during the game. They came from 13 points down in the second half to win in overtime. Junior, Marcus Sasser recorded 25 points, graduate senior Taze Moore tacked on 12 points. Kyler Edwards added 10 points along with 11 rebounds. J’Wan Roberts tacked on eight points along with 15 rebounds.

The Cougars outscored Hofstra 34-13 with 8 1/2 minutes remaining in regulation, including in overtime. Houston shot 45% percent. Also was 10 of 24 on 3 point shots. Houston did not do so well at the free-throw line, only making 15 shots out of 25.
Jamal Shead scored 8 points. Fabian White Jr knocked away Hofstras pass inbounds to go to overtime. Estrada threw up a three-point shot with a second left on the clock but missed it. Houston averaged 46 rebounds.
Tramon Mark did not play due to a shoulder injury.
For Hofstra, they shot 39%, making 12 three-pointers out of 43 3 point shots. They have nine new guys on the team this year.
Both teams played tough.

Houston Vs Rice

November 12th, they hosted Rice. They defeated them 79-46. Marcus Sasser tallied 26 points, Kyler Edwards tallied 18 points along with six rebounds. Marcus Sasser made five 3-pointers out of 9 tries. He scored 16 points in the first half. At the half, the Cougars led 44-15. The Cougars forced Rice to turn the ball over 20 times, and the Cougars scored 34 points off of them. They shot 41%. They made ten 3-pointers out of 30 attempts. Rice struggled, although they were ready to play. Their shot percentage was 28%. Rice tallied eight 3-pointers out of 31 total attempts. With this loss, they fall to 2-50 on the road against top-ranked opponents. Travis Evee tallied 11 points and Cameron Sheffield tallied 10 for Rice.

Memphis Vs Tennessee Tech

November 9th, 11th ranked Memphis hosted Tennessee Tech. Memphis won 89-65. As a team, they shot 59.3%(35-59). They made 13 3-pointers out of 26 tries. Emoni Bates had 17 points, Jalen Duren had 15 points-13 for 19 from the field. Duren caught six rebounds and blocked five shots. Lester Quinones tallied 15 points, seven rebounds and made three shots out of 6 from range. DeAndre Williams had 12 points and four assists. Landers Nolley II made 10 points. The Tigers clicked in the first half, so they led by 16 points in the first 20 minutes. Tennesee Tech’s leading scorer was Mamoudou Diarra. He scored 11 points.

Memphis Vs North Carolina Central

Memphis hosted North Carolina Central on November 13th winning 90-51. At the half, Memphis led by 15. Emoni Bates’ had 15 points. Jalen Duren produced a double-double, 10 points, and ten rebounds. Josh Minott scored nine points and collected nine rebounds. Tyler Harris accumulated 11 points. Landers Nolley II and Lester Quinones collected double figures. Earl Timberlake collected six assists, five rebounds, two steals, and one blocked shot. The Tigers held North Carolina Central to only 26.2 percent shooting, 12.0 percent from 3-point range. Memphis was at the free-throw line 47 times and made 31 of their free throws. Memphis blocked 13 shots and had 12 steals. Eric Boone led North Carolina Central. He had 13 points.

General Conference Overview

The AAC(American Athletic Conference). Overall the conference has excellent talent. Houston is a favorite to win the conference. Memphis comes in at number 2. SMU number 3. Wichita State number 4.
UCF number 5. Cincinnati number 6. Tulsa number 7. Temple number 8. Tied for 9th place South Florida and Tulane. 11 Eastern Carolina.

A team in the AAC currently not in the AP Top 25 is UCF. As well as they are playing, they could be in the AP Top 25. They are 2-0 on the season.

Cincinnati could be in the AP Top 25. They are 2-0 on the season. They are also playing well.
