There is a Star player in San Diego and it’s not who you are thinking. Jake Cronenworth has really stepped up for the Padres.

The San Diego Padres should be one of the better teams in baseball but struggled early on this season. With the roster, they have constructed the Padres should be a championship contender.

Before last season, you might be able to ask any Padres fan who Jake Cronenworth was and they’d have no idea. But that all ended last year when Jake Cronenworth stepped on the field in a Padres uniform for the first time. Making his major league debut on July 26th, 2020. The 25-year-old at the time did not know that he would soon become a fan favorite in San Diego.

Cronenworth did not disappoint in his first season in the bigs, playing in 54 games, he hit a slash line of .285/ .354/ .477, with 15 doubles, three triples, and four home runs. Many had believed that he would end up being the National League Rookie of the Year, but he was the runner-up for the award.

With many stars on the Padres roster such as Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Eric Hosmer, Yu Darvish, and Blake Snell. You wouldn’t think that another guy on the roster could be rising to his stardom. But that is not the case. Jake Cronenworth made his first all-star appearance this season. One of four All-Stars for the Padres (Darvish, Mark Melancon, and Tatis).

To make things more interesting, and prove himself once again. The day after the All-Star break Cronenworth hits for the cycle. The third cycle in the history of the San Diego Padres. He joined Matt Kemp and teammate Wil Myers as the only three to hit a Single, Double, Triple, and Homerun all in one game. He started it off with a 2- run double in the second inning, in the next inning he hits an RBI Triple, it was then a solo home run in the 5th inning that made him just the single shy, and he comes back up in the next inning and lays down a base hit on the infield. That cycle came in a game that the Padres tallied up 24 runs.

Look for Cronenworth to continue raking for the Padres!
