New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby is officially ruled “out” for game three against the Indian Pacers. The injury to his left hamstring came late in the third quarter on a fast-break as he went in for a dunk to extend the Knicks lead. It was evident he had hurt himself after he couldn’t put much weight on the leg and was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the game.

This blow for the Knicks could not come at a more gruesome time for the already short-handed New York squad. After losing Julius Randle earlier in the year to a season-ending injury, they are also without Mitchell Robinson and Bojan Bogdanović who are also likely out for the remainder of the playoffs. At this point, the best news for New York is that Anunoby will be back for the last few games of the series or at best the Eastern Conference Finals if they can finish off Indiana.

With Anunoby on the court, the Knicks are a whopping 26-5 adding elite defense guarding the opposing team’s best player as well as adding 16.5 ppg., 6.8 apg., while shooting 39.5% from three-point range this post-season. He allows for teams to shy away from his point guard Jalen Brunson and give an extra threat in all areas of the basketball court.

However, New York will keep abiding by what they’ve been doing and that’s having the next man step up. The bench will have to fill Anunoby’s role whether that’s Prince Achiuwa, Duece McBride, or Alec Burks who was acquired in a mid-season trade with the Detroit Pistons.

With New York up 2-0 in this Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, it gives them a little leeway knowing they will be returning to Madison Square Garden behind their fans for game five no matter what happens in Indiana. The Villanova trio will have to continue their dominance and more if they end up playing without Anunoby and can play out to be one of the most special runs in NBA playoff history.
