AP TOP 25 Poll
25. Louisville Cardinals (5-0)
Previous Ranking: NR
Week 5 Result: 13-10 W NC State
What’s next: vs. No. 10 Notre Dame 10/7 4:30 PM
The Cardinals have entered the AP Top 25 for the first time in three years. Though, Owen and Alex had them in the rankings last week. The Cardinals have been very impressive this year winning a majority of close games, outside of two blowouts. – Dacota Haynes
24. Fresno State Grizzlies (5-0)
Previous Ranking: 25 (moved up 1)
Week 5 Result: 53-10 W Kent State
What’s next: @ Wyoming 10/7 5:30 PM
Fresno State extended the longest active losing streak in the FBS by cruising to a 27-9 win over Nevada. The Bulldogs werenʻt as impressive, but may have been looking ahead to a massive battle in the Mountain West against Wyoming. Something is disconcerting about night games in Laramie, just ask Texas Tech. – Owen Patterson
23. LSU Tigers (3-2)
Previous Ranking: 13 (dropped 10)
Week 5 Result: 55-49 L Ole Miss
What’s next: at Missouri 10/7 9 AM PDT
The only two-loss team in this weekʻs poll is LSU. The Tigers took a crushing loss at Ole Miss to accompany their early season falter against Florida State. In Week 6, the Bayou Bengals face the Tigers of Missouri on the road. LSU is walking on thin ice, with a third loss putting LSU out of the conversation for good. – Owen Patterson
22. Tennessee Volunteers (4-1)
Previous Ranking: 21 (dropped 1)
Week 5 Result: 41-20 W South Carolina
What’s next: Bye
Still hanging around in the AP Top 25 is Tennessee. A three touchdown win over South Carolina happened to move the Volunteers down a spot to number 22. Tennesseeʻs loss to Florida is becoming more of a head-scratcher after the Gatorsʻ recent loss to Kentucky. Nonetheless, Tennessee will be hanging around a little longer, benefitting from a bye week coming up before hosting Texas A&M in an intriguing matchup. – Owen Patterson
21. Missouri Tigers (5-0)
Previous Ranking: 23 (moved up 2)
Week 5 Result: 38-21 W Vanderbilt
What’s next: vs. No. 23 LSU 10/7 9AM PST

Week 5 Result: 33-14 W Florida
What’s next: at No. 1 Georgia 10/7 4PM PST

Week 5 Result: 21-14 L Notre Dame
What’s next: Bye
The gut-wrenching loss for Duke to Notre Dame went from bad to worse when it was revealed star quarterback Riley Leonard suffered a high ankle sprain on the game-sealing strip sack. Though they get a bye week this week, it will not get any easier for the Blue Devils. They face North Carolina State, Florida State, and newly-ranked Louisville back-to-back-to-back. The race to the ACC championship will be a loaded one and Duke will take full advantage of the week off. – Max Crider
18. Utah Utes (4-1)
Previous Ranking: 10 (dropped 8)
Week 5 Result: 21-7 L Oregon State
What’s next: Bye
The Utes did not look as powerful as everyone thought they were, most thought they hang around with Washington, Oregon and USC a little longer but surprisingly that may not be. They are still without starting quarterback Cam Rising so maybe they get stronger when he returns. – Dacota Haynes
17. Miami Hurricanes (4-0)
Previous Ranking: 18 (dropped 1)
Week 5 Result: Bye
What’s next: vs. Georgia Tech
The Hurricanes would usually be checked out from the season around now, but they are still undefeated going into conference play. They themselves are also coming off an early bye week, but the real season begins now. They face off against a Georgia Tech team that just lost to Bowling Green at home. The collision course with the Tar Heels is set so long as Miami gets past this week unscathed, but history has shown one can never be too sure about the Hurricanes. – Max Crider
16. Ole Miss Rebels (4-1)
Previous Ranking: 20 (moved up 4)
Week 5 Result: 55-49 W LSU
What’s next: vs. Arkansas 10/7 4:30 PST
The Rebels have risen up to number 16 after coming back to beat LSU, 55-49. The Lane Kiffin offense got corrected after a down game against Alabama. 15. Oregon State Beavers (4-1)
Previous Ranking: 19 (moved up 4)
Week 5 Result: 21-7 W Utah
What’s next: at Cal 10/7 7 PM PST
Following their loss to WSU, the Beavers needed to prove themselves. Lose and they most likely would have been out of the AP Top 25, Win and jump back towards the top. They showed up with some stellar defense against Utah and proved that they are capable of winning. – Dacota Haynes
14. North Carolina Tar Heels (4-0)
Previous Ranking: 15 (moved up 1)
Week 5 Result: Bye
What’s next: vs. Syracuse 10/7 12:30 PM PST
All’s quiet on the Chapel Hill front this week. The Tar Heels got to sit back and watch as their rivals in Durham could not finish the job against Notre Dame. They also get their chance at playing Syracuse, a formerly unbeaten team that lost at home to Clemson 31-14. The offense will get its chance to get back into the groove it’s maintained all season. The week after, they draw Miami, a team with a quarterback putting together a respectable season of his own. – Max Crider
13. Washington State Cougars (4-0)
Previous Ranking: 16 (moved up 3)
Week 5 Result: Bye
What’s next: at UCLA 10/7 12PM PST
Through their first four games the Cougars were a team that turned some heads. Now after the Bye Week we will see if that was a fluke or if they can withstand playing as well as they have been for the rest of the season. UCLA will not be a walk in the park, they may have a freshman QB but they were ranked earlier this year. – Dacota Haynes
12. Oklahoma Sooners (5-0)
Previous Ranking: 14 (moved up 2)
Week 5 Result: 50-20 W Iowa State
What’s next: at Texas 10/7 9 AM PST
Oklahoma and Dillon Gabriel has been on point this year so far. They’ve scored at will but coming up next is a huge test in a battle tested Texas team. It should be a close and physical game with the winner having an inside track to the playoffs. – Jeff Scoggins
11. Alabama Crimson Tide (4-1)
Previous Ranking: 12 (moved up 1)
Week 5 Result: 40-17 MS State
What’s next: at Texas A&M 10/7 9:30 AM
The Crimson Tide played their best game of the year on Saturday, beating Mississippi State in Starkville by a score of 40-17. Alabama needs to keep up the stellar play as they hit the road again, going this time to Texas A&M. Success for Bama will rely on the defense until the offense gets squared away. – Owen Patterson
AP Top 25 poll
Top 10
10. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (5-1)
Previous Ranking: 11 (moved up 1)
Week 5 Result: 21-14 W Duke
What’s next: at Louisville 10/7 4:30 PM PST
Many questioned how the Irish would respond after a heartbreaking final play-winner surrendered to Ohio State the previous week. The Irish went up 13-0 early but then the defense got rattled and gave up two touchdowns, with the offense showing no life. With the season on the line most likely, Sam Hartman and Audric Estime go downfield and Estime runs it in to shut down any chance Duke had to win the game. Sam Hartman showed his toughness, running for the first down with under a minute to go, on 4th and long. Notre Dame travels to Louisville to play a newly ranked Cardinals team, as they sit at 25th. – Kyle Thibideau
9. USC Trojans (5-0)
Previous Ranking: 8 (dropped 1)
Week 5 Result: 48-41 W Colorado
What’s next: vs. Arizona 10/7
The Trojans escaped Colorado with the win and dropped in the rankings. That might be deserved though after we saw Oregon crush the Buffaloes the week before. USC might not be as good as everyone though, or maybe it was just bad game planning. – Dacota Haynes
8. Oregon Ducks (5-0)
Previous Ranking: 9 (moved up 1)
Week 5 Result: 42-6 W Stanford
What’s next: Bye
The Ducks struggled throughout the first quarter but once they scored, they were off to the races. At this point, it truly feels like Dan Lanning has brought his Georgia defense to Oregon. That lockdown defense has helped propel the Ducks into the top of the AP Top 25 with their first 5-0 start since 2013. – Dacota Haynes
7. Washington Huskies (5-0)
Previous Ranking: –
Week 5 Result: 31-24 W Arizona
What’s next: Bye
The Huskies will get a bye after struggling on both sides of the ball against Arizona. Granted, they still got the win but their undefeated streak may be on the line when the Ducks come to town next week. A top-10 matchup that will feature two powerhouses gunning for their undefeated streak to atay alive. Could we see ESPN College GameDay in Seattle? – Dacota Haynes

The trio of quarterback Drew Allar, Nicholas Singleton, and Lamber-Smith paved the way in the second half for the Nittany Lions to go on a 31-3 run to bury the Wildcats. They deserve the number six ranking, but there are some questions heading into their bye week. – Kyle Thibideau

Week 5 Result: Bye
What’s next: vs. Virginia Tech 10/7 12:30 PM PST

4. Ohio State (5-0)
Previous Ranking: –
Week 5 Result: Bye
What’s next: vs. Maryland 10/7 9 AM PST
Ohio State had a bye week this past week as they look ahead to face undefeated Maryland at noon in Columbus on Saturday afternoon. McCord will try to replicate what he did against Notre Dame against a much weaker defense and he will get home-field advantage to go along with that. – Kyle Thibideau
3. Texas Longhorns (5-0)
Previous Ranking: –
Week 5 Result: 40-14 W Kansas
What’s next: vs. Oklahoma 10/7 9 AM PST
Texas once again took care of business to stay undefeated and in ranked third in the AP poll. Next week will be another big test with playoff dreams on the line in the Red River Showdown. Oklahoma is undefeated and ranked just outside the top ten. If Texas can get past the Sooners with a win they look good to make the playoffs this season. – Jeff Scoggins
2. Michigan Wolverines (5-0)
Previous Ranking: –
Week 5 Result: 45-7 W Nebraska
What’s next: at Minnesota 10/7 4:30 PM PST
A near shutout against Nebraska, Michigan fired on all cylinders Saturday afternoon against Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers. McCarthy and the offense did not have to do much because of the defensive takeaways, but McCarthy did throw for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Michigan deserves the number two spot for now. They will face a similar opponent next week when they travel to Minnesota to take on the Gophers. – Kyle Thibideau
1. Georgia Bulldogs (5-0)

Week 5 Result: 27-20 W Auburn
What’s next: vs Kentucky 4:00 PM PST
After completing another second half comeback against Auburn, Georgia remains undefeated and remains number one. Despite the ranking, it is hard to confidently say that Georgia really is the best team in the country.
