Tyrese Haliburton

Within the last two seasons, several teams have increased their odds to compete in the Eastern Conference. Some front offices completed their rebuild, while others pursued the best talent on the market. Nonetheless, the East appears to be up for grabs with multiple contenders going to war for the Larry O’Brien trophy.

One of the teams that shocked the world last season was the Indiana Pacers. They made it to the Eastern Conference Finals when numerous fans had them as a first-round exit. Through this run, they knocked out the Bucks and Knicks, two rosters that had high expectations entering the playoffs.

Conversely, with more star power in the Eastern Conference, fans are weighing in on whether the Pacers have enough to appear in the NBA Finals. Despite being led by Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam, Indiana has a relatively young roster, creating concerns around their experience to go all the way.

With their best efforts, the Indiana Pacers will compete to win the Eastern Conference next season.

In a packed Eastern Conference, the Indiana Pacers have one of the most unique rosters. They have a 24-year-old all-star in Tyrese Haliburton steering the franchise, with 2019 champion Pascal Siakam contributing as the co-pilot. These two, at full health, will keep Indiana in the top six.

Moreover, the Pacers’ potential will be transformed by the contributions of their role players. Rising star Andrew Nembhard is on the list of breakout candidates next season, as he proved himself in their run to the Eastern Conference Finals. Additionally, veteran guard T.J. McConnell will be relied on due to his experience and seasoned skill set.

However, the most significant difference will be made by the 2022 sixth-overall pick, Bennedict Mathurin. He returns from injury as the Pacer’s third option after suffering a right shoulder injury in early March last season. Mathurin could be seen as the ‘x-factor’ as he elevates the team’s ceiling through scoring and playmaking.

That said, the Indiana Pacers should be considered legitimate contenders in the Eastern Conference next season. Though it will take strong coaching and sufficient health, it would be a mistake to skip over Indiana in the championship debate.
