It seems as if the Arizona Diamondbacks have been in the midst of a rebuild for a long time, but it was only after the 2019 season that the official rebuild started. The Diamondbacks went 74-88 in 2022 as one of the youngest teams in baseball. The front office saw some of their top prospects debut a season ago, and that trend is going to continue in 2023. Corbin Carroll was electric when he made it on the big league roster, and it’s going to be exciting seeing what he can do in the new season. This time for a full year.
Questions heading into 2023
Yes, this team is going to have a lot of fun and exciting prospects. However, they have a few questions heading into the new campaign as well.
Ketel Marte is coming off of a down year, he hit just .240 in 2022. Which is far below his .318 average in 2021. If the Diamondbacks want to compete this season, they’ll need him to produce. So the question is if he can bounce back.
There’s also a few questions surrounding the veterans of this team. Madison Bumgarner is coming off of a down year, and Evan Longoria was added in the offseason. While the latter looks to be a great pickup with a full-time DH now in effect, he is not getting younger. In fact neither of these two veterans are. They’ve had some history with injuries. What levels can they produce at this season? How much do they have left in the tank?
