The A’s avoided the sweep Sunday afternoon against the Texas Rangers. They lost Friday’s contest 8-1, as Adam Oller struggled again in his 3rd start of the season. He gave up 5 runs in the 2nd inning, and the A’s couldn’t recover. On Saturday the A’s lost 2-0. Frankie Montas was excellent all game, until the 8th inning. He left the game with runners on 1st and 3rd and only one out. Domingo Acevedo took over, and gave up a 2 run single shortly after. The A’s offense was unable to get anything going and were shutout. However, on Sunday they bounced back, and got the 2-0 win to avoid the sweep. Cole Irvin was solid for 5 innings. Stephen Piscotty hit his first homer of the season that gave the A’s the lead in the 4th inning. Then the bullpen was able to shut the door after that, as Dany Jimenez recorded his 3rd save of the season.
The A’s will finally have an off day tomorrow, as today marks the end of 17 straight games for the green and gold. They will resume play Tuesday night across the Bay, where they will play a quick 2 game series against the San Francisco Giants.
