The Oakland A’s continue to play good baseball. They have just won another series, taking 3 of 4 from the Baltimore Orioles. On Monday night they won their home opener 5-1. Frankie Montas looked like his normal dominant self on the mound allowing 1 run over 6 innings. The offense got some help from some timely hitting, and bad defense by the Orioles. Then on Tuesday night the A’s won again 2-1. Seth Brown had a clutch 2 run double, and Cole Irvin along with the bullpen did a solid job pitching.
On Wednesday the A’s were shutout 1-0. Daulton Jefferies looked fantastic on the mound, but the offense couldn’t knock in any runs, even when they had great opportunities. In Thursday’s series finale the A’s won 6-4 thanks to timely hitting from Sheldon Neuse and Sean Murphy. Paul Blackburn pitched well again in his 3rd start of the season, giving up 1 run over 5 innings pitched.
There were a couple milestones reached this weekend for the A’s. Zach Jackson picked up his first major league save Tuesday night, along with Zach Logue picking up his first big league win. Then on Thursday, highly ranked prospect Nick Allen got his first major league hit. The A’s off to a surprising 8-6 start, will host the Texas Rangers this weekend for a three game series.
