Sean Murphy Is Heading To Atlanta In Three-Way Trade.
Catcher Sean Murphy has been traded to the Atlanta Braves in a three-way trade between The A’s, Braves, and Brewers. It has been expected that Sean Murphy would be moved this offseason, and the Braves are the ones who landed him.
Sean Murphy had a very solid season in 2022. He managed to slash .250/.332/.426 with 18 home runs and 66 runs batted in. On top of this, Murphy landed in 18th place in AL MVP voting. While still a huge pickup, it wasn’t cheap for Atlanta. The trade details can be seen below.
Trade Details
A’s receive:
Outfielder Esteury Ruiz from Brewers
Cather Manny Piña from Braves
LHP Kyle Muller from Braves
RHP Freddy Tarnok from Braves
RHP Royber Salinas from Braves
Braves receive:
Catcher Sean Murphy from A’s
Brewers receive:
Catcher William Contreras from Braves
RHP Joel Payamps from A’s
RHP Justin Yeager from Braves
William Contreras is the other main piece to this trade. The young catcher has made an impact with Atlanta this past year, becoming an all star for the first time in his career. In 2022, Contreras batted .278/.354/.506 with 20 home runs. This leads for a huge return for the Brewers who haven’t had a solid catcher for some time.
With the Winter Meetings wrapped up and most of the big name free agents off the board, the trade market is due to heat up soon. This trade is the first of many to come.
