Real Madrid and Liverpool meet for the second and final time this season. They clash horns at the Santiago Bernabeu and the home team sits on a healthy three goal cushion coming into this match. Though the lead can allow some complacency, Madrid must play this game as if the score is all squared. Here’s my opinion on the best lineup that Carlo can choose:
Any injuries in the Camp?
Ferland Mendy and Karim Benzema have recovered from their respective injuries and muscle discomfort so they are in the squad. Alaba is still out of the squad through injury.
Best Lineup
Carlo Ancelotti had a plethora of quality footballers at his disposal. So it’ll always be difficult to choose a lineup. Especially when most of your players are performing at a high level. Ultimately, only 11 players can start a football match so this is the lineup that I’d field to take on the Reds:
Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, Nacho; Tchoumeni, Camavinga, Kroos; Fede, Benzema, Vini Jr.
I think that this lineup is capable of adapting to the many in-game situations that’ll occur on Wednesday night. These players are able to soak up pressure and play on the counter attack and they’re more than capable of taking the game to the opposition.
Luka Modric will almost certainly start the game and either Camavinga or Tchouameni will have to sit this one out, but I’d start the Frenchmen. I understand that their inexperience can be exposed in this match but I also believe that the only way that they’ll mature as players is by playing.
Personally, I wouldn’t throw Mendy into a game as huge as this one. But Carlo isn’t scared to throw recently recovered players into the deep end. For example when he started Alaba in the first leg against Man City despite him being 50 percent fit.
Let’s see who Carlo Ancelotti goes with. But in my opinion, this is the best lineup to go with to take on the six time UCL winners.
