The 2024 Winter Classic was one to remember, as the league’s two newest franchises battled it out outdoors at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, on New Year’s Day. In the end, the home team came out on top, as the Seattle Kraken defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0. Here are some of the best moments from the event.
Kraken Entrance
The Seattle Kraken had one the best entrances in Winter Classic history before the game. As the team walked out, the Pike Place Market fishmongers tossed fish over the players’ heads, all while rapper Sire-Mix-a-Lot, a Seattle native, performed his 1996 version of the hit song “Jump on It.”
If that was not enough fish, the Kraken came dressed as the Pike Place Market fishmongers, carrying fake fish as they walked off the bus. Some Seattle players even threw the fake fish to fans in the crowd.
Golden Knights Entrance
The Vegas Golden Knights had a clever entrance of their own, arriving at the game in Elvis costumes. Vegas put a ton of effort into their costumes, as each player rocked an Elvis wig along with Elvis’ famous sunglasses.
The National Anthem
The national anthem was performed by Seattle teen Nikhil Bagga, who crushed it on the electric guitar. Bagga, who is just 14 years old, became a fan favorite before the refs even dropped the puck.
Performance From Seattle-Based Heart
The party did not stop in Seattle, as the Seattle-based band Heart performed during the first intermission. The kids playing shinny on the small rink inside T-Mobile Park could not help but bring out the air guitars during their game.
A Big Seattle Win In Front Of The Home Crowd
The Kraken capped off a memorable 2024 Winter Classic by defeating the Golden Knights 3-0. Eeli Tolvanen opened the scoring for Seattle less than five minutes into the game. He then added an assist on the Kraken’s second goal, scored by Will Borgen. Yanni Gourde picked up his fifth goal of the season for Seattle’s final goal of the day. Goaltender Joey Daccord made 35 saves for his second shutout of the season.
With the victory, the Kraken have now won their last five games and sit one point back of the Arizona Coyotes for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.
