With two weeks of college football in the books, we are getting into the swing of things with betting lines. There are dozens of games being played from Thursday through Saturday. Which ones feature lines worth betting on though?
With two (and three for some) games down, we are getting a better idea of what some teams are. But two games is still a short look at squads, especially if some of that play has come against a much worse or better opponent.
Nonetheless, here are five college football betting lines you should look at and how you should bet on them.
Five Week 3 College Football Betting Lines
Louisville vs. UCF (-7.5, 69.5) Friday, 7:30 p.m. (ET)
Each of these team have played two games. The Central Florida Golden Knights opened their season with an impressive win over Boise State. The Louisville Cardinals lost their opener to Ole Miss without their head coach.
Each team won their second games pretty easily, but UCF has just looked way better than Louisville. The Cardinals couldn’t stop Ole Miss, allowing nearly 600 yards. UCF put up nearly 600 yards on Boise State. Gus Malzahn will have his team ready, do the same to Louisville and have a much easier time than this line shows, winning by two scores.
Coastal Carolina vs. Buffalo (+10.5, 58) Saturday, 12 p.m. (ET)
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are ranked 16 in the country, yet they still may be underrated. After blowouts over The Citadel and Kansas, they will go on the road and take on the Buffalo Bulls. Though this is their first road game of the season, Coastal Carolina shouldn’t struggle here.
After opening their season with a big win over Wagner, they lost 28-3 to Nebraska. With their offense, expect the Chanticleers to put up way more points than the Cornhuskers could.
Nebraska vs. Oklahoma (-22, 61.5) Saturday, 12 p.m. (ET)
I usually don’t like taking teams with such high spreads, especially in conference matchups. But the Oklahoma Sooners, after surviving a nail biter against Tulane, had an organized scrimmage in a 76-0 win over Western Carolina. Nebraska struggled to open their season against Illinois and then beat two lesser programs.
Spencer Rattler and the Sooners won’t struggle to put up points, but this time won’t take their foot off the gas and finish off a big win over Nebraska. Expect them to come out fast and keep it going. The only thing that could hurt the line is if Scott Frost can get Adrian Martinez and the offense working and keep up with Oklahoma’s offense.
Alabama vs. Florida (+14.5, 57) Saturday, 3:30 p.m. (ET)
Though I do like a lot of what the Florida Gators can do, they aren’t ready to keep up with the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Gators have won pretty easily against Florida Atlantic and South Florida, but not in dominating fashion. Alabama has dominated in their games, including the season opener against Miami.
Florida could perform much better than their in-state rivals did against the Crimson Tide, but I don’t see that making a big enough difference to keep this within two scores. Watch for Alabama’s defense to control this game and quarterback Bryce Young to make plays when needed to keep a healthy lead.
Virginia vs. North Carolina (-9, 65) Saturday, 7:30 p.m. (ET)
The Atlantic Coast Conference has struggled with finding a second program to pair with Clemson. The North Carolina Tar Heels were thought to be that second program before the season. Though they lost their opener to Virginia Tech, they could get their season back on track against the Virginia Cavaliers.
But there have been few players with better starts to the 2021 season than Cavaliers’ quarterback Brennan Armstrong. He is currently fifth in the country in passing yards and fourth in passing touchdowns. Expect some fire works in this game with Armstrong facing star quarterback Sam Howell.
This game will have a lot of scoring, but it will come down to the wire. With Virginia being a nine point underdog on the road, I really like them being able to stay close enough and covering the spread.
