Tyler Bass

The Buffalo Bills lost another playoff heartbreaker to the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday in the divisional round, and kicker Tyler Bass is taking the blame for it. With the Bills down three with under two minutes to go, Bass missed a 44-yard field goal that would have tied the game. The missed kick sealed a 27-24 victory for the Chiefs.

“Ultimately, it’s completely on me,” Bass said after the game. “I’ve got to do a better job of getting through to my target. “I’ve got to do a better job of playing it a little bit more left when you have a left-to-right.”

“I was trusting my line that I had in warmups. Hit a good ball, but it didn’t work out. I feel terrible, you know? I love this team and it hurts. This one hurts bad. Yeah, I’ve got to do a better job. Totally on me.”

Tyler Bass finished the postseason with just two makes in his five field goal attempts. He missed a field goal and had one blocked in Buffalo’s 31-17 win over the Steelers in the wild card. Bass made his first field goal attempt in Sunday’s game against the Chiefs and was three for three on extra points.

Josh Allen Comes To Bass’ Defense

The Bills had a chance to take the lead with a touchdown, but Josh Allen had back-to-back incompletions on deep throws that forced Buffalo to settle for a game-tying field goal. Allen made sure to direct the blame away from Bass after the game.

“I wish [Bass] wouldn’t have been put in that situation,” Allen said. “You win as a team, you lose as a team. One play doesn’t define a game. It doesn’t define a season. I know people are going to be out there saying that. We got to be there for him because again, we execute a couple of plays prior, probably singing a different tune right now.”

The Buffalo Bills drafted Bass in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Bass made 82.8% of his field goals in the regular season, the lowest percentage for the 26-year-old since his rookie year.

With Buffalo’s loss Sunday, the Bills fall to 0-3 against the Chiefs in the playoffs with Allen as their quarterback.
