Blake Griffin Retiring

The Oklahoma stand-out and the former No. 1 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, Blake Griffin, is retiring from basketball. He said so in his “Letter to Basketball” and was also reported by Shams Charania on X(Twitter). Griffin last played for the Celtics in the 2022-2023 season, when he helped them make an Eastern Conference Final. The Oklahoma City kid, who went to Oklahoma, is finally hanging it up, and what a career he had.

Career

The Los Angeles Clippers drafted Blake Griffin with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. His career started slow after injuring his knee ONE day before his NBA debut and missed the entire 2009-10 season. Griffin’s rookie year was the 2010-11 season where he would have 22.5 PPG, an All-Star appearance, and a Rookie of the Year trophy. He would then have a great career with the Clippers, playing 6.5 more seasons with them before being traded to the Detroit Pistons for a plethora of players and picks. Griffin played for the Pistons for 3 seasons where he was a 3rd-team all-NBA and an All-Star in the 2018-19 season. He was then traded to the Brooklyn Nets to join Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. He took on a lesser role there and he would never play to his All-NBA level again. Before retiring, Blake Griffin joined the Boston Celtics in his final NBA season.

Achievements

Blake Griffin is retiring with an almost full trophy case, excluding an NBA Finals Trophy. Griffin racked up six All-Star appearances over his 13-year NBA career. He also was on the All-NBA team five times, three 2nd-teams and two 3rd-teams. He won the 2010-11 Rookie of the Year and was an NBA Dunk Contest winner after he dunked over a KIA in 2011. Griffin was also a part of the Lob City Clippers, an exciting group of dunking and flashy players. Overall, Blake Griffin had a great career and it is great to reminisce after he announced he is retiring.
