Blazers Going Big?

The Portland Trail Blazers are looking for a sense of urgency to make Damian Lillard happy. Dame wants a championship-caliber team and the only way to do that is to be aggressive. There are reports that the Blazers might be making a trade for Pascal Siakam.

Damian Lillard has enjoyed playing for Team USA, and there have been reports that he is ecstatic about playing with an athletic big. Whether Dame actually said that or not is yet to be seen. Though, athleticism at the big man position is something that the Blazers have always needed.

Athletic Bigs The Blazers Could Grab:

FREE AGENCY

  • JaVale McGee – a three-time NBA Champion, McGee is getting a chance to play with Damian Lillard right now on the USA national team. He knows what it takes to make it to the NBA Finals, learning from both Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors and from LeBron James.
  • Nerlens Noel – Three years removed from being claimed injury prone… Noel has been one of the best backup centers. Though he doesn’t have the championships that McGee has, he is still an athletic big man that is strong and could help in the pick and roll. He is known to be one of the best shot-blockers in the NBA.

Now there are a few other athletic bigs that the Blazers could go after in Free Agency but these are a couple that would be enjoyable to watch in a Blazers uniform. The Trail Blazers also could make some trades in order to make themselves look more like a championship-caliber team. In any trade that the team makes though, they may have to give up CJ McCollum due to money restrictions.

On Draft day the Blazers made a trade to pick up Greg Brown – a 6-9, 210 pound PF out of Texas. He was one of the best athletes in the draft. For the Longhorns, Brown averaged 9.8 points and 6.3 rebounds. He should be able to help the Blazers in the Athletic Big category.

  1. Greg Brown’s college average of 9.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game doesn’t sound like a number that will translate into the NBA as very much. I’m not saying he isn’t good and can’t eventually have an impact, but those numbers don’t really impress me.

I’m not sure if it will truly translate, but the kid looks young and promising… which is honestly something that the Blazers don’t need right now. I could see him being moved or used as a backup.
