Boilers Escape With Win vs Wisconsin

The Big Ten Champion (5)Purdue would travel on the road to take on the Wisconsin Badgers. The Boilers come in off a rough stretch of games at the end the season. The game would end with Purdue winning 63-61, and it was a close fight up to the end.

1st Half

The first half started off Big Ten style, defensive. The first ten minutes would see the game be a 12-12 tie between the two teams. Fletcher Loyer was going early for Purdue, as he had nine of their 22 points. The Boilers were up 22-19 with six minutes to go in the first half. For Wisconsin, Isaac Lindsey was on fire off the bench for Conner Essigian, Lindsey had eight points and was 3/3 from the field. The Boilers led by as much as six at one point, and the half ended with a score of 31-27.

Lindsey led the way for Wisconsin, while the monster down low for the Boilers Zach Edey led with nine points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Purdue’s keys to getting the early lead were steals. Wisconsin had some lazy passes that led to easy baskets for Purdue. The Boilers also lead in the Paint, outscoring the Bader’s 20-4 down low. If Wisconsin wants to stay in this game, they will have to keep it low scoring and low possessions.

2nd Half

Coming out of half, the three continued to fall for the Badgers. Wisconsin was 6/13 from three. while Purdue was 2/12 at this point. This made the score 33-32 with 16 minutes left to go in the game. Shortly after, Wisconsin would take its first lead of the game, going up 38-34, forcing a Purdue timeout. The game would continue to go back and forth. With a lob to Caleb Furst, Purdue would be able to cut the Badger lead to two, forcing a Badger timeout.

With 6:34 left, the Boilers still trailed by one. The score would be 53-52 Badgers, and the three point shot continued to keep Wisconsin in the game. With 1:39, Purdue would have a one point lead thanks to Edey free throws.The game would finish with Purdue hanging on to win 63-61.

The big man Edey led the way for the Boilers, having 17 points with 19 rebounds. Max Klesmit was the leading man for the Badgers, having 19 points and four rebounds. Being a close game until the very end, Purdue hung in and was able to defeat a home tough Wisconsin Purdue will look to close out its season Sunday. The Boilers will take on Illinois in Mackey Arena, then prepare for the Big Ten Tournament.
