Rick Hendrick Motorsports has again swept the front row for the Daytona 500. Alex Bowman has clinched the pole for the 65th running of the Great American Race. It’s the third Daytona pole in Bowman’s young career.
ALL HENDRICK FRONT ROW
Bowman laid down a top speed of 181.686 miles per hour Wednesday night to clinch the number one starting position. The pole also means Bowman will lead the odd numbered qualifiers to green in Thursday’s Duel at Daytona race one. Bowman’s teammate, Kyle Larson, will start alongside him on Sunday. The 2021 Cup Champion and 2022 Daytona pole sitter laid down a top speed of 181.057 for the second fastest time. Larson will lead the even numbered qualifiers in race two of the Duels. Their teammate William Byron posted the third fasted qualifying time while 2020 Cup Champion and fellow teammate, Chase Elliott, was 14th fastest.
JOHNSON, PASTRANA QUALIFY
Since NASCAR changed to a charter system, only four non-chartered teams have a chance to qualify for the Daytona 500. Two of those four positions were taken by legendary names. Seven time Cup Series Champion, and former Hendrick driver, Jimmie Johnson guaranteed a spot in the race with his speed. Also guaranteeing a spot was motocross legend Travis Pastrana in what will be his Cup Series debut. The starting field will be set during Thursday night’s Duels.
Catch the Daytona 500 Sunday at 2:30 pm Eastern on Fox.
