The Portland Trail Blazers will be looking for history to repeat itself at this year’s lottery. As they will have Brandon Roy represent the organization at the event, next week.

The Blazers have the fifth-best odds to win this year’s No. 1 pick and receive the opportunity to select Victor Wembanyama, the top prospect in the 2023 NBA Draft. The 7-foot-2 stretch forward is averaging just over 21 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks for Metropolitans 92 in the LNB Pro A.

The lottery will take place on May 16 and will air on ESPN.

Luck of the draft or is Roy a five-leaf clover?

The organization has had Roy represent them at the lottery draft and that time, they had received the No. 1 pick. Sure, Roy had some injuries that didn’t allow him to sustain a lengthy career. But, the Garfield High School coach is still an icon in the history of the Portland Trail Blazers. Brandon Roy played six seasons, with only one stop outside of Portland. Though, while with the Trail Blazers, he was a three-time all-star. He was also selected as an All-NBA member twice throughout the five seasons in Portland.

A season ago, the Trail Blazers sent current star Damian Lillard to the draft. The team had the sixth-best odds at the first-overall pick and wound up falling to No. 7. They then selected Shaedon Sharpe, who became a fan-favorite this last season with his scoring ability. He finished the season averaging 9.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.

Lillard and everyone else in the organization is looking to get back to the playoffs after the Blazers have failed to make it the last two seasons. So, the Blazers will now wait to see if history can repeat itself this season.
