Brayan Bello Has Earned a Spot in the Red Sox Rotation in 2023.

The last two months of the Red Sox season have been tough to watch. The eliminated and injury-riddled team has gone 22-29 since the start of August and is crawling to the end of the season. The Red Sox snapped a six game losing streak last night with a 13-9 win against the Orioles. However, even in last night’s victory, Baltimore still out-hit Boston with 15 hits and 4 home runs. While there hasn’t been much to look forward to when tuning into the games recently, there is one player who is showing a lot of potential for the future.

Brayan Bello has become a bright spot in this Red Sox rotation in the final stretch of the season. The 23-year-old right hander was called up in early July from Worcester after only nine starts in Triple-A. His debut was rocky, giving up 4 runs in his only 4 innings. However, the growing pains are going away as he has been stellar in the past couple months.

September Belongs to Brayan Bello.

Bello has posted a 1.65 ERA in the month of September, with 27 strikeouts over his past five games. That’s the most strikeouts in the MLB over the last five games. Bello has also only given up one home run this season. Former Red Sox pitcher and Hall of Famer, Pedro Martinez, has gone on the record to say that he sees Brayan Bello as a “Cy Young type of pitcher”, as Bello’s changeup has been compared to Martinez’s historic changeup many times before.

Brayan Bello is due to have one more start in 2022. In his most recent start against the Yankees, he hit 50 innings pitched on the year. So with hitting that mark, this season is officially Bello’s rookie season. While most likely not bringing home any hardware like Rookie of the Year, the young pitcher has definitely proved himself to be a dominant pitcher for years to come. With many pieces of the roster hitting free agency this winter, it’s not certain what the Red Sox will look like in 2023. However, it is almost certain to say that Brayan Bello has earned himself a spot in the Red Sox rotation again in 2023.
