The Arizona Diamondbacks will be sending Eduardo Escobar to the Milwaukee Brewers per Mark Feinsand. In exchange the Brewers will be sending minor leaguer Cooper Hummel and Alberto Ciprian to the Diamondbacks. Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns spoke about what he is adding to the organization,

“His veteran presence, offensive ability and positional versatility will be a benefit as we continue our push for a playoff berth and postseason run.”

However, for Diamondbacks fans, this move should not be a surprise. The Diamondbacks are currently 33 games out of first place of the division-leading Giants. So, at this point, the Diamondbacks are in line for the number 1 pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.

However, for the Brewers, the addition of Eduardo Escobar will be a key addition to their roster. Escobar on the season is hitting .246 on the season with 22 home runs and 65 RBIs on the season. In addition, Escobar on the season is first in two key offensive stats. Currently, he is tied for fifth in home runs and tied for sixth in runs batted in.

Eduardo Escobar Impact On The Brewers

The addition of Escobar will be significant for the offense of the Brewers as they make a postseason run. But the Brewers have had to deal with injuries all year, so adding another bat will be more of an insurance to their roster.

Also, adding Escobar to the roster will allow the Brewers more flexibility in the infield. So, this will allow the Brewers to play more matchup-based since Escobar is a switch hitter.

But, this deal is not a long-term agreement with Escobar going to be a free agent at the season’s end. So the ideal situation is to go into October and make a postseason run, but beyond that, if one party is happy, try to renegotiate a new deal in the offseason.
