One of the biggest short stops on the market has found a new landing spot. Trea Turner has signed an 11-year, $300 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Turner has been one of the most explosive players in baseball with a great hitting approach, incredible range in the field and an insane amount of speed. He is bursting with talent and is a big reason his previous team, the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers, have been so successful.
He is in his eighth season in the majors, 6.5 with Washington and 1.5 with Los Angeles. Overall he has played in 849 games where he has posted 1033 hits, 191 doubles, 36 triples, 124 homers, 434 RBI, 230 stolen bases 268 walks, and a .302 AVG.
He has had some incredible seasons so far in his young career. In 2018 with Washington he was one of seven players to play in all 162 games. He has racked up scored 100-plus runs and 30-plus doubles in three seasons, 150-plus hits and 19-plus homers in four seasons, and 30-plus stolen bases in five seasons.
Last season with the Dodgers he put up some numbers that rivaled those of previous seasons. His 160 games, 708 plate appearances, 652 at-bats, 45 walks, 194 hits and 21 homers were all second most for a season. He did set a personal record with 39 doubles and 100 RBI.
He is only getting better as his career progresses. Philly is getting one of the best middle infielders in baseball which is huge as they hunt for the NL title and to reach the World Series once more. Adding a player with as many tools as Turner has is going to bring a lot to this team which already hosts superstars like Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber.
