The Dallas Cowboys (6-1) prepare to host the Denver Broncos (4-4) this week in an effort to win their 7th straight game. The Cowboys are coming off of a big win in Primetime on Sunday Night Football with backup QB Cooper Rush leading the star-studded Cowboys offense in Dak Prescott’s absence. For the first time since maybe the 1990s with the Triplets, the Cowboys feel like a legit Super Bowl contender. On the other side of the ball, the Broncos managed to get to .500 with a win last week against WFT. Despite the win, the Broncos Playoff Hopes might have been the big loser coming out of the trade deadline. Let’s look at the biggest storylines before picking this games.
3 Storylines to Watch
Dak Prescott Injury Status
Cowboy’s QB Dak Prescott is expected to return to the lineup this week after he missed last week with a calf injury. Despite middle of the road stats, there is a “Dak for MVP” case to be made. He has been ranked at number one in Gregg Rosenthal’s QB Index for the last three week. Dak has enough talent around him to take some of the production load, but Dak is clearly the commander of this team. He consistently makes good decisions and he has proven he can win in the clutch. Dak also gets the good fortune of facing a Denver defense that may be undermanned and dispirited.
Denver D without Von
If you play for the Broncos D, doesn’t the Miller trade feel like a white flag from your organization? Even with him, the Broncos last three games against non-backup QBs have not had great results. They have given up more than 23 points to the Ravens, Steelers, and Raiders; giving up 35 to the latter. They have had the good fortune of facing the Case Keenum Browns and the Taylor Heinicke Football Team. They will face maybe the most talented offense they have seen this season.
Dallas Defense is LEGIT
It’s no longer a secret that Dan Quinn’s Defense is much improved from last year. Not only are they better statistically, but they have some bonafide superstars in Trevon Diggs and rookie Micah Parsons. Diggs leads the league in interceptions (7) and shut down Justin Jefferson last week (2 rec, 21 yds). Parson is on track to win DROY this year with his impressive switch from off ball linebacker to pass rusher in the wake of Dallas injuries. Not to mention Keanu Neal and Leighton Vander Esch at LB. Look for Dallas to give Teddy B and the Denver offense nightmares in this one.
Game Pick
How bout em! Dallas should be able to handle Denver here. Dallas wins 30-17. This would be like two ships passing in the night of the season. One headed for the playoffs; the other headed for another potential rebuild.
