There have been many reports recently as to where Bronny James may choose to play at the next level.
Those reports can now come to an end as James has chosen to play at USC over both Oregon and Ohio State. Bronny James made the announcement on Instagram. LeBron James also shared the announcement on Instagram, writing “So damn proud of you kid!”
The 6-foot-3 guard from Cleveland has been nearly stellar this season and is considered a top-five point guard in the country. A reasonable consideration. Bronny James averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists on the Nike EYBL circuit last spring and summer. James has followed that up with multiple stellar performances this season.
James had 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals in the Hoophall Classic against Christopher Columbus (Florida), shooting 3-for-8 from 3-point range. He also finished with 11 points in the Nike Hoop Summit. The new Trojan was lights out in the McDonald’s All-American game.
James has been in the spotlight, due to his family name. He is currently projected to be a top-10 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Eric Bossi of 247Sports evaluated the Sierra Canyon star last February:
“Slowly but surely, Bronny James is starting to come into his own as a player on a loaded Sierra Canyon team. James’ 6-foot-3 frame has filled out nicely and he’s added some pop on drives to the rim through traffic or in transition. One of his strengths is his ability to make catch and shoot jump shots and he is a fantastic passer. James gives good effort on the defensive end where he plays with toughness and versatility. There are times where he can be a bit passive on the offensive end, but overall he has made positive strides as a junior.”
Recruitment Process
The recruitment process for James has been long and mysterious, with Bronny having the ability to choose where he wanted to play. The reports have shown that there was no pressure of being from Ohio and his father currently playing for the Lakers.
“Talking to them, talking to the coaches, it’s good to know they want me there with them,” James said in response to a question about all-star game teammates recruiting him to certain schools. “But at the end of the day, it’s my decision and I need to make the right one for me.”
James, who resembles his father’s play style, will now suit up for Andy Enfield and the Trojans, joining a preseason top-25 team and one of the best backcourts in the country. They are expected to bring back all-conference guard Boogie Ellis, who averaged 17.7 points per game last season. They also have elite point guard, Isaiah Collier, who is the No. 1 high school senior in the country.
James Jr. will provide a lot for the Trojans. He is classified as one of the best shooters in his class, especially off the catch. Not to mention, he is a lockdown defender. With a high basketball IQ on both sides, he’ll give USC a much needed two-way presence. He is expected to play mostly off-ball and has the ability to give his new team, a second and third ball-handling option when needed.
