The Brooklyn Nets (29-23) have extended their losing streak to seven games after losing to the Utah Jazz (32-21) with a final score of 125-102.
Kyrie Irving finished with 15 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds as the Nets’ loss again. Cam Thomas came off the bench and provided a needed 30 points on 11-19 shooting. Unfortunately, James Harden did not play as he was reported to have felt tightness in his left hamstring.
It is obvious to the casual NBA fan that the Nets’ are struggling. One way to stop the bleeding for a team that is falling off the rails is with the return of their leader, Kevin Durant.
Durant has been out since January 16th when an MRI revealed that he had sprained his MCL on his left knee. Since the injury, the Nets’ have only won two of the following ten games. The victories came against the Wizards and Spurs back on January 19th and 21st.
After the back-to-back wins, the team has been trying to play without its main offensive player but it has not resulted in any more positive results. The Nets’ have lost five road games and two home games in the slide down the Eastern Conference standings.
Before the seven game losing streak, the Nets’ were 29-16 and in contention for the number one seed in the conference. Now the Nets’ are 29-23, in the sixth seed and in danger of falling farther down the standings as the Toronto Raptors and Boston Celtics are a game behind.
The Brooklyn Nets have to find a way to limit the losses until Durant comes back and it is possible. Kyrie Irving is able to play in road games and James Harden has to be the leader on both ends of the floor. His offensive prowess is second to few around the league. When the two dynamic players are on the floor they have to produce as it is up to them to keep the boat afloat.
There have been reports according to Shams Charania, that the Philadelphia 76ers are making a late push to discuss a possible trade for James Harden.
James Harden does have a connection to the 76ers as General Manger Daryl Morey was the GM in Harden’s time as a Houston Rocket from 2012 to 2020. The possibility of a return to work out a deal is on the clock as the NBA’s trade deadline is on Thursday, February 10th at 3 p.m., ET.
The Nets’ will now travel to Ball Arena and face the Denver Nuggets (28-24) on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., ET.
