Bryce Harper is Leading The Phillies Through October.
The National League Championship Series is heading back to Philadelphia tonight. The series is currently tied at one game a piece, with The Phillies looking to capitalize on their home field advantage. Thanks to a dominant rotation and a lineup built to crush baseballs, the Phillies broke an eleven-year playoff drought this year. The Phillies’ success this season came from many key players like Kyle Schwarber and Zack Wheeler, but there is one superstar player who is leading the team through October: Bryce Harper.
Harper signed with the Phillies in 2019 after departing from The Nationals. His signing came with a promise of making it back to the postseason and eventually winning the World Series. Last season, while not making the playoffs, Bryce Harper brought home the National League MVP award.
Bryce Harper is putting up postseason numbers this year that could make David Ortiz jealous. This postseason, Bryce Harper is batting .419/.455/.935 with an OPS of 1.390. These numbers are showing on the field too, as Harper has hit four home runs this postseason with seven runs batted in.
This dominance at the plate is coming at the right time. With the rest of the teaming only hitting with a batting average of .220 and an OPS of .675, this postseason from Harper is huge. Bryce Harper is leading the Phillies this postseason in Batting Average, RBI, Home Runs, OBP, SLG, and Hits. If he continues this tear through October, and the rest of the lineup starts producing as well, the Phillies could be dangerous going deeper into the postseason.
Is This The Phillies’ Year?
The Phillies were the underdogs going into this postseason. They first defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card Series. They then continued to eliminate the NL East champions Atlanta Braves. Now, they’re looking to take out the Padres to advance to the World Series. Could Bryce Harper’s performance this October be enough to bring them all the way? Or will they find that the rest of the lineup will need to start hitting as well?
