Bryce Miller in his first year with the Seattle Mariners is turning into the ace of the Seattle Mariners in front of our eyes. Yes, in front of the designated ace, Luis Castillo. Through Miller’s first three starts he holds a under one ERA (earned run average), including a scoreless streak of 13 innings. Even better he has walked one batter over 19 innings pitched, so you can say his control is above average.

Born in Mount Pleasant, Texas, Miller went to school at Texas A&M where he then pitched for the Aggies in a highly competitive conference in the SEC (southeastern). He did not impress, holding a sub four era over 110 innings, only starting ten games over 54 games. He was in relief for 44 of those games. That resulted in Miller being selected in the fourth round in the MLB first year player draft in 2021, where he was selected by the Seattle Mariners.

Miller is ranked as the second-best prospect in the Mariners farm system, behind catcher Harry Ford. In the minors, Miller did not set the world on fire like he is doing in the MLB. This season in double-a he held a mid-six era over four games, taking two losses. Last season, although, he a low-three era throughout his time in high-a, single-a, and double-a, taking the win sever times and the loss four times over twenty six starts in twenty seven games.

He popped of the map in the MLB because of his ability to find the strike zone and repeating a ton of arm speed. Many scouts doubted that he would be able to do this, thinking he should shift back to the bullpen like he did in college at Texas A&M. With the core of Luis Castillo, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Robbie Ray to pair with Bryce Miller, the Mariners and Miller should be good for a long time as they try to compete with the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros for their first American League West title since 2001, a 22 year drought. Miller is pitching like an ace and it will be before no time where he is thought of as one, creating a duo with teammate Luis Castillo.
