The Buffalo Bills had a test in front of them in their season opener game. They had to travel to Los Angeles to play against the defending Super bowl champions in their house. I’d say Buffalo passed their first test with an A+. They dominated the Rams on all sides, offense, defense, and special teams. The Bills stamped themselves as a clear contender for the Rams’ crown with a 31-10 victory over Los Angeles on Thursday night. We won’t go play by play but instead I’ll hit on main areas and moments that stood out.
Offense on point
Offensively we saw the Bills do whatever they wanted as the Rams struggled to get a rhythm. Josh Allen went 26 of 31 passing and accounted for four scores, three passing and one rushing, to two interceptions. Wide receiver Stephan Diggs had his way against the Rams defense as he looked unstoppable. The Bills had 413 total yards and went an amazing 9 of 10 on third downs. Anytime you convert 90% of your third downs it increases your odds for victory.
Rams offensive struggles
The Los Angeles Rams had a much harder night as their star quarterback, Matthew Stafford, was sacked 7 times and only amassed 240 yards with one touchdown to three interceptions. Although most of their offense is the same from last year they didn’t look the same. The Rams couldn’t keep Bills pass rush off of them all night.
Defensive domination
We all saw the Bills offense being a powerhouse this season, but their defense is what astonished everyone including the Rams. The Bills are just down right scary this season after showing a devastating pass rush to match their high scoring passing attack.
This just feels more and more like it could be a special year for Bills Mafia. I know, it’s only been one game, so giving too much hype is dangerous most of the time. We can only watch to see if Buffalo Bills can keep this play up, but in my opinion they are the real deal.
