Star Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark announced to the world on Thursday that she will be foregoing her final year of eligibility and declaring for the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Just this week, Clark became the all-time scoring leader for NCAA Division-1 women’s basketball. She is the overwhelming favorite to be the number-one overall pick this year.

The owner’s of the top pick in this year’s draft are the Indiana Fever. The Fever also had the top pick in last year’s draft, selecting South Carolina Forward Aliyah Boston. Boston went on to start in the 2023 WNBA All-Star Game, lead the league in field goal percentage and was unanimously selected as the Rookie of the Year.

Back in October, Boston (who is also an analyst for NBC) sat down with Clark to ask her about being the consensus top prospect. And they both alluded to playing together on the Fever.

Caitlin Clark declaring for the WNBA draft comes as no surprise to anyone. She has been one of the best players in college basketball over the last two seasons. This year she’s leading the country in points and assists per game at 32.2 and 8.7 respectively.

Caitlin Clark’s Final Hawkeye Days

The Hawkeyes enter their final game of the regular season this Sunday against #2 Ohio State. Clark is just 17 points shy of Pete Maravich’s all-time NCAA D-1 scoring record.

Iowa is currently 25-4 on the season. They are expected to make another deep run in this year’s March Madness tournament, after falling short in the National Championship last year to LSU, led by fellow 2024 graduate Angel Reese.

With her legacy stamped on the college level, Clark will be looking towards the next stage of her basketball career in the pros. And we’ll find out soon enough if she’ll be able to leave Iowa with a national championship.
