This season Raleigh started with the Mariners but after struggling was sent down to the Tacoma Rainiers (Triple-A affiliate) at the end of April. The young backstop didn’t spend much time there, however, as the starter, Tom Murphy went out with a season-ending shoulder injury. In a short time in Tacoma, Raleigh changed his swing and the results followed.

Cal Raleigh – Making History

Raleigh has had a fantastic season. With his 26th home run he became the Mariners franchise leader for home runs by a catcher. He also became the first player in MLB history to hit a pinch-hit walk-off home run and clinch a postseason spot.

This walk-off home run came with the Mariners having two outs, and a full count in the bottom of the ninth inning. As a result, he ended the Mariners’ 21-year playoff drought.

With Cal Raleigh being one of the reasons the drought ended, he will most likely take the same energy into the playoffs.

How Do the Mariners Look Heading Into the Postseason?

Although the Mariners have never made it to a World Series. They have the youth and potential to make it to one soon. This year the Mariners will have a great playoff campaign with players like Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, Mitch Haniger, Robbie Ray, Ty France, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert and so many more.

However, the series with the Toronto Blue Jays is going to be a very close matchup. The Blue Jays have players such as Alek Manoah, Alejandro Kirk, Bo Bichette, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.just to name a few.

After not making the playoffs for 21 years, the Mariners are going to put up a fight against an outstanding Blue Jays lineup. Both teams have great pitching and players that can put up lots of runs, so it will be a good series to watch. It will ultimately come down to which team wants it more.
