The Cleveland Cavaliers guard Caris LeVert could be the player they’ve been looking for all season long. For the first time since 2018, the Cavs have clinched a playoff spot. As well as they are going to the playoffs for the first time without LeBron James. That has not been done since the 1997-98 season. Therefore with the playoffs around the corner, this team will need all the players on one accord and playing well. LeVert can be the key player for the Cavaliers to have a deep playoff run.

Up And Down Season

After the Cavs traded for LeVert a season ago many believed he could help with the scoring load and playmaking abilities. To this point of the season, he has had an up-and-down season. However, as of late LeVert has been coming around scoring and playmaking-wise for this team. He has been asked to play an unfamiliar role in an off-ball position next to Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell. It has not been an easy transition this season for him. He is used to having the ball in his hands and scoring in volumes. Although over the last few weeks, he has begun to show he can be the missing piece.

A March To Remember

During March, Caris LeVert has put together a memorable month that has Cavs fans excited about the future. For the duration of this period, he is averaging 18.4 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.4 turnovers. His recent surge can be attributed to catching fire from deep. During his career, his three-point shooting has been very streaky and is known for having unsustainable shooting streaks. However, this recent hot streak is very different from his past shooting spurts. Given that LeVert cannot always sustain his shooting. Over this stretch, he is taking 40.9% of his shots from three.

The difference in his shot selection is that they have come as catch-and-shoot opportunities. For instance, of his 6.2 three-point attempts he takes a game. 4.4 of those are catch-and-shoot opportunities. Coupled with his better shooting and shot selections he has been the best catch-and-shoot player on the Cavaliers. By the time the playoffs start, that could bold very well for LeVert and the entire team.

Contributions

Despite his up-and-down season this year, LeVert has still been a positive contributor. With the lack of shooing at times his playmaking ability has been helpful. Due to his ability to be exceptional at manipulating defenses off-the-dribble. During his time with the Pacers LeVert has played well with the ball in his hands the majority of the time. So whenever he can contribute that way he tends to be successful. Especially in the pick-and-roll to create easy baskets for the Cavaliers’ big men.

Defense

LeVert has the ability to provide decent defense while also being a good secondary creator. At this point of the season, his solid defense and ability to create is why he’s part of the Cavaliers’ most successful lineups. This includes the five-man unit of LeVert alongside the core four of Garland, Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. That group is anchored by their defense and is also outscoring opponents by 13.4 points per 100 possessions.

Caris LeVert Could Be The Missing Piece

By all means, LeVert has the ability to be that guy for a Cavaliers team looking for contributions from their wings. Therefore, he could be the guy next to the core four for a deep playoff run. LeVert has been a more willing shooter over his hot stretch. He has elevated the Cavaliers’ best five-man unit while also bolstering the bench. If LeVert can keep up with his recent surge or more sustainable shooting, willing defense, and playmaking. He will help this Cavaliers team make a run and take the next step toward becoming a contender.
