After winning in overtime last night, the Carolina Hurricanes recorded their seventh victory in a row and tied their franchise record with 13 game point streak. Brent Burns was able to score his 800th NHL point tonight as well. The Hurricane’s longest win streak in franchise history is nine games. Pittsburg’s Jeff Carter was the tenth active player to play in 1,200 NHL games.

Brent Burns 800 NHL Point

Burns earned this achievement by getting a secondary assist on Jaccob Slavin’s goal in overtime. Slavin scored just 23 seconds to make the game end quickly. Burns now has 231 goals, and 569 assists in 1,284 NHL games. “You know you’re getting close, guys are just texting you,” Burns said. “I think it’s nicer that it was a big goal. To see Slavin put that in, you don’t realize it at the time, but it was nice to get that one. Try not to think about it. I don’t know, it’s nice. It’s always nice to contribute. It doesn’t matter what it is, it’s nice if you’re doing that and you’re contributing.”

Carolina Hurricanes Stats This Season

The Carolina Hurricanes have a record of 21-6-6. Martin Necas has 31 points on the season and leads the Hurricanes in points. In addition, Andrei Svechnikov lead with 17 goals and Brent Burns leads in assists with 19.

Hurricanes vs. Penguins

The Penguins have lost by one point in three games against the Hurricanes. Carolina Hurricanes Jordan Staal scored a game-tying goal at 15:38 to bring this game to overtime. Tristan Jarry made 32 saves for the Penguins. Coming into tonight’s game Jerry had won eight out of the last nine. “It’s a hard game against this team,” said Evgeni Malkin whose nine-game point streak ended. “We’ve played like three times and scored almost like even because they play hard. We expect that. Just one mistake in overtime and they score. It’s a little bit tough.”

The Hurricanes play Friday night against the Philadelphia Flyers in hopes to continue this winning streak, but for now, the Carolina Hurricanes can celebrate their seventh victory.
