In a season where they showed flashes of potential and talent, has now turned into an offseason of unknowns and risks. The Carolina Panthers finished 5-11 in 2020 but they had some games that were closer than thought. They also were without their star Christian McCaffrey for most of the season. Can they get they job done and make the playoffs this season? Let’s take a look.
Offseason Preparation
The Panthers have not done much as far as offseason preparing for the coming 2021-2022 season. The biggest move they made was for QB Sam Darnold in a trade with the Jets for 3 picks. They also signed WR David Moore from the Seahawks to a 2 year deal, and they also acquired Jaycee Horn in the 2021 draft and signed him to a 4-year deal.
Season Prediction
Sam Darnold gets to start the season hosting the team that traded him as the Panthers host the Jets week 1. The rest of the schedule looks pretty difficult for this team to overcome as they are playing the Bills and the Bucs for 3 of the last 4 weeks of the season. I have this team finishing with a 5-12 record, which puts them 3rd in the NFC South, missing the Playoffs. It will definitely send them into a rebuild mode and they will potentially look to move off of CMC at the end of the season.
Team Awards
MVP: Christian McCaffrey – CMC, if he can stay healthy, will have a top 10 RB season and will have 1,000 yards on the ground and 500+ yards in the air. He is still one of the best in the game right now so it is no surprise he will lead this team to most of their wins.
OPOY: Sam Darnold – I think that Sam Darnold will have a good season, not great. But I do think it will be enough to keep his NFL career afloat for at least one more season.
DPOY: Jaycee Horn – With the 8th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select, their future start CB. I think Horn is talented enough to find his way into the top Corners in the league and I think he will start to breakout in the second half of the season.
