1st Half

It was an underwhelming first half performance from Real Madrid. Our press was half-hearted which broke our defensive structure. We didn’t move the ball fast enough and the right side of our attack was invisible. We went 1-0 up via a Benzema penalty but then conceded in similar fashion 9 minutes later. A Modric worldie gave us a 2-1 lead going into half time.
Though we were leading, a better performance was needed in the second half as Celta weren’t going to give up.
2nd Half
It was clear to see that Carlo had a lot to say about that first half performance in the dressing room. We came out and our performance improved in all aspects. Vini rounded the keeper to make it 3-1 before assisting Fede for his first of the season. Hazard had the opportunity to make it 5-1 from the penalty spot in the 86th minute. However, Agustín Marchesín saved his penalty.
Key Takeaways for Real Madrid
Positives takeaways
- I saw some nice patterns of play/sequences.
- Tchouameni looked comfortable in and out of possession.
- Camavinga is learning and maturing.
- Vinzema looks sharp.
- Our defensive structure improved as the game went on but it can still be further improved.
Things to improve on for Real Madrid
- Intensity from the start of the match
- Involving the right hand side of our attack more often
- Stopping the initial cross more frequently
Real Madrid’s MOTM

My man of the match was Tchouameni. With all eyes on him after Casemiro’s exit, he stood up to the task. In and out of possession he was superb throughout the match. We even saw his ball carrying ability in the build up to the third goal. An emphatic performance from the Frenchman ahead of an important season. As Carlo Ancelotti said, “the Real Madrid shirt is heavy”, so the pressure is always on.
