Chad O’Shea was interviewed to be the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. O’Shea has served as the Cleveland Browns’ wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. The Ravens former offensive coordinator Greg Roman recently decided to step down as coordinator. In his duration as coordinator, he transformed the Ravens’ offense to fit the athletic style of Lamar Jackson. However, over the last few years, the offense under Roman failed to evolve. Therefore, Baltimore will be looking to upgrade as offensive coordinator. Chad O’Shea will be featured as one of the possible candidates.

Coaching Experience

O’Shea has spent time with the Kansas City Cheifs and Minnesota Vikings before a long stint with the New England Patriots. In ten seasons as wide receivers coach with the Patriots, he won three super bowl rings with the team. Such experience is what the Ravens would like to replicate. Following his tenure with the Patriots, he left when former colleague Brian Flores went to Miami as the head coach. O’Shea would serve as the offensive coordinator for the Dolphins. However, he would only be with the team for one season. After that, a short stint in Miami, O’Shea was hired on as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator with the Cleveland Browns.

Competition

Along with interviewing the Browns wide receivers coach O’Shea the Ravens will cast a wide net to find the right guy for the team. For instance, Baltimore interviewed the Rams’ passing game coordinator and quarterback coach Zac Robinson. The early approach the Ravens seem to be taking is interviewing coaches that want to become offensive coordinators. As well as having a background as a passing game coordinator. Under Roman the running game was not the issue, however, it was the lack of evolution in the passing game. Baltimore will look to change that narrative and help improve quarterback Jackson’s throwing ability. Albeit that is if the two sides can agree on the terms of a new contract. Head coach John Harbaugh expressed his belief that the offensive coordinator job will be highly sought after.

Conclusion

Above all, if O’Shea is to be hired on as the next offensive coordinator it would be a great step for him in his career. O’Shea would get another opportunity to be an offensive coordinator after just one season doing so with the Dolphins. The Baltimore Ravens are not the only team that has requested to interview with O’Shea. The New York Jets requested to interview O’Shea as well. After the Jets fired their offensive coordinator Mike Lefluer they will look to hire someone as well. Above all, this may be a mutually beneficial opportunity for both the Browns and O’Shea. It is reported that the Browns may look to upgrade some areas of the offensive assistants. Cleveland is looking to upgrade its passing game in like manner of the Ravens.
