
The Portland Trail Blazers recently fired head coach Terry Stotts. It has been announced that Chauncey Billups, who was recently the assistant coach of the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Blazers star Damian Lillard sat in on the interviews. The two sides are hopeful that they can reach a deal in the coming days.
Chauncey Billups and the Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to terms on a five year deal.
Billups, 44, becomes the 15th head coach in Blazers history and replaces Terry Stotts, who parted ways with the Blazers on June 4 after nine seasons. Billups comes to the Blazers after one year as an assistant coach on Tyronn Lue’s staff with the Los Angeles Clippers.
In the press conference according to the Oregonian, “Billups is asked where he is with the staff and what he values in his staff. Billups says he thinks it’s really important that he has a lot of experience on his staff. Mentions he wants to have a strong defensive presence on the staff. Mentions having coaches who can communicate and connect with players and hold them accountable.”
In the next few days, weeks and months before the season starts, Billups will be asked to bring in a crew that he wants as assistant coaches.

Brandon Roy
Roy, a former star player for the Blazers has been the coach at Garfield High School since 2017.
Rasheed Wallace
One of the best defensive players that the Blazers have had in quite some time. Wallace is the current coach at Charles E. Jordan High School, and was an assistant for the Detroit Pistons.
Gary Payton
Whether he wants to become a coach or not, Billups should offer an assistant coach position to ‘The Glove’ who was one of the best defensive point guards of all time.
