The Chicago Cubs fell below their expectations in 2022. With that being said, they made some splashes in free agency and they’re looking to get back to the playoffs in 2023. Check out our Chicago Cubs 2023 Preview:

The Cubs have a very well balanced pitching staff. A mixture of young pitchers looking to make a name for themselves, and some veterans who can help mentor those young guys. Kyle Hendriks should be back in early 2023. Though, the one flaw that the pitching staff may have is thay they don’t have a set closer. David Ross has mentioned that he’s not afraid to go with a closer by committee. Brandon Hughes is projected to get a majority of the saves in 2023, but Adbert Alzolay, Brad Boxberger and Michael Fulmer are projectd to get some as well. There’s reports that Alzolay could be a dominant closer by season’s end.

The Cubs might have made two of the top 10 splashes this offseason by landing Dansby Swanson and Cody Bellinger. Those additions deepen the lineup that already features Trey Mancini, Yan Gomes, Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki.

It might still be hard for this team to make the postseason in 2022. However, the goal is to finish over .500, which they definitely could do if things fall into place. Can Bellinger return to his MVP form? Will Eric Hosmer stay consistent without the shift? Can the rotation stay healthy. Those are just a couple questions surrounding this team heading into 2023.
