The Red Sox’s win today against the Detroit Tigers was filled with mixed emotions. The Red Sox came out of the day with a 7-1 win against Detroit and was Chris Sale’s first appearance of the Spring. The first inning brought a scary sight when DH, Justin Turner, was hit in the face with a pitch. He has reportedly been transported to a local hospital where he is being treated for soft tissue damage along with a concussion.

Chris Sale’s First Appearance Was Filthy

Chris Sale’s stat line today looks very promising. Sale pitched 2.0 innings and only allowed 2 hits and 0 earned runs. He also struck out 2 batters in filthy fashion. While dominant, the real exciting news came from the radar gun. Sale was managing to reach up to 95 mph on his fastball, which is a fantastic sign. As always, his slider is nasty, but the velocity reaching mid 90s is a great sight.

After retiring the third out in the second inning, Sale was seen smiling coming off the mound. As a Red Sox fan who hasn’t seen Chris Sale smile since 2018, this is a sign of great things to come this season.

The Red Sox are currently undefeated so far this Spring, with this win bringing their record up to 7-0. Today’s win was thanks to solid pitching once again by the pitching staff, along with consistent hits. Ramiel Tapia is making a strong case for making the Opening Day roster as he had an RBI double today along with a home run.

It’s still early in Spring, and several players leave for the World Baseball Classic after tomorrow’s game. But this Red Sox team is already showing some reasons to hope for a strong season. For now, the Sox are undefeated, and the new additions are making some good first impressions.
