The Cincinnati Reds have more questions than answers heading into the 2023 season. The rebuild in Cincinnati continues after the likes of Eugenio Suarez, Jesse Winker, and Luis Castillo all got traded at some point in 2022. Check out our Cincinnati Reds 2023 Preview:
Prospects
Though, they may not have to wait long before many of their prospects start arriving in the MLB. Many of their are starting this season at AA or AAA. A handful of the top pitching prospects may reach the MLB this season, including No. 6 Brandon Williamson and No. 23 Levi Stoudt. Both the No. 1 Elly De La Cruz and No. 2 Noelvi Marte have reached the MLB level this spring and are on the 40-man roster. Both of them could make the opening day roster depending on how well they play this spring.
Rookie Sensation
The Reds saw Alexis Diaz, brother of Mets closer Edwin Diaz, emerge from Spring Training a year ago. The younger Diaz surprised the coaching staff and front office with his dominant pitching. The 26-year-old was definitely a rookie sensation, but he’s now looking to become a star. He needs help finding a walk out song as popular as his brother.
“I’m still on that homework assignment right now,” Díaz said Wednesday via translator Jorge Merlos. “I may need some help from a couple of fans or people who are good at choosing music to help me figure out what song I should pick. I want the fans to be in a good mood and have fun when I go out there.”
“Narco” by Timmy Trumpet and Blasterjaxx become a Citi Field sensation when Edwin Diaz introduced it as his walk in last year.
“Yeah, I have to find a song that’s just as good or better than what my brother has,” Díaz said before pitchers and catchers held their first workout.
Additions
The Reds made a few additions this offseason, guys that will be able to help extend a young lineup: Wil Myers, Nick Solak, and Curt Casali. The latter is projected to be the starting catcher until Tyler Stephenson comes back from injury.
