The Cleveland Browns are alive and kicking for the divisional title race. During this time two weeks ago in the midst of a losing streak, it seemed as if all was lost. Not saying that this team is completely fixed. However, after the last two games, there is blatant progress happening with the team. After a few games where the defense looked completely lifeless, they have shown a pulse. Along with the Patriots game, the defense as well lacked effort. The Browns defense finally put it all together. Offensively the Browns just had to eliminate some mistakes. For example in the Chargers game instead of running with the ball Jacoby throws a pass that was easily intercepted. In the Bengals game same scenario, however, Brissett ran for a touchdown. With a complete victory, Cleveland is 2-1 in the division with nine games left.
Cleveland Browns Beat The Cincinnati Bengals 32-13
The Browns beat the Bengals in dominant fashion. With a team total of five sacks, the Browns defense looked like a top-five unit many believed they could be. Cleveland played more exotic coverage against the Bengals and was able to communicate and stay disciplined most of the game. Offensively the Browns were clicking on all cylinders. For instance, the run game was effectively paired with the passing game. Amari Cooper had 5 receptions for 153 yards. Taking advantage of Cincinnati’s secondary that sustained injuries during the game. Above all this divisional win gets them to a 2-1 record in the division right behind the Ravens and most importantly it snapped a four-game losing streak.
Cleveland Browns – Three-Game Season
The next three games will be critical for the fate of the Browns for a playoff berth and possible division title. As well the bulk of the Browns games has been played without Deshaun Watson. After these three games, he will make his much-anticipated debut. When he makes his return in order to have a shot at the aforementioned goals the Browns need to win two games out of the three. Going into Houston they need to be 5-6 overall. If they only win one of the three all will not be lost but the team would want to give Watson a little more room for error. Of the next three games, the Dolphins and Buccaneers are the most winnable games. However, the Bills game isn’t very likely to result in a win.
Trade Deadline Saga
The trade deadline has come and gone and most importantly Kareem Hunt is still on the team. This is beneficial because of the tandem he and Nick Chubb are and will lead this team a long way. Then when you add in Deshaun Watson opposing defenses will have to pick their poison. Three weeks ago the Browns traded for linebacker Deion Jones. He was a much-needed help after losing Anthony Walker jr. to a season-ending injury. This move early on has helped this defense improve a little more from a few weeks ago. The Cleveland Browns made no major moves to bring in another player during the trade deadline. The major core of this team will be the same to see what they look like as a whole with their starting quarterback.
Conclusion
So you’re telling me there’s a chance? The Cleveland Browns have something to play for in the second half of this season. The team is not completely at the level they need to be. However, there has been new life breathed into this team. It now looks like a two-man race for the division title between the Ravens and Browns. Cincinnati falls to 0-3 in the division and faces multiple injuries to key players. When the Browns play their final three divisional games Deshaun Watson will be the starting quarterback.
