Marcus Morris Sr. got ejected from tonight’s game fouling Ja Morant hard on a dunk attempt. Defensive rebounding has been poor with Grizzlies getting 55 rebounds. Tyronn Lue has been a great halftime adjustment coach this year but tonight the players just did not perform. Grizzlies put up 78 points in the paint compared to Clippers 46 points. Memphis out rebounded the Los Angeles 55-40. Those numbers are not a winning recipe as the final score was 109-135.
Norman Powell the new Clippers guard is in the starting lineup tonight and made the first three points in tonight. Grizzlies show some good offensive rebound effort early in the first quarter. Reggie Jackson was getting some wide open looks off the pick and roll action off Norman Powell and Marcus Morris Sr. The effort on defensive rebounds was lacking in the first quarter. Grizzlies just seemed to be out working the Clippers. Terrance Mann got into the lineup and quickly dialed up a three pointer and the Clippers effort level. The Grizzlies had 12 second chance points in the first quarter as the score was 27-38 Grizzlies up.
Clippers and Grizzlies had some back on forth basketball early in the second quarter. The second half defensive rebounding did not improve. I counted four grizzlies in the paint going for a rebound and Hartenstein was the only Clipper in the paint on a couple possessions. Robert Covington showed the best effort in the second quarter, Clippers need some more help though as the score is 55-70 Grizzlies up. Tyronn Lue will have some second half adjustments to keep this game closer in the second half.
Clippers Looking Forward
Clippers have the Dallas Mavericks twice in Dallas for their next two games. Then will come home to face the Golden State Warriors. Clippers have a tough schedule the rest of the season. Los Angles had a lot of self inflicted errors tonight. It is still uncertain if Paul Goerge or Kawhi Leonard will be back this season. With Los Angles sitting at 27-29 the path to the playoffs is getting harder.
